Club History

We are based in the small village Tonna, Neath Port Talbot South Wales , we have a rich history dating back to 1888. The club was first mentioned during the 1887/88 season, when we were drawn to play Mynydd-bach in the local Neath cup challenge.

This marks February 28, 1888, as the club’s official founding date.

Over the years, Tonna RFC has been a feeder club for many first class rugby union sides such as Neath , Aberavon , Swansea to name a few. The club was temporarily disbanded during World War I, but later reformed as Dulais United, an amalgamation of local villages including Tonna, Aberdulais, Cadoxton, and Cilfrew.

In recent years, we have continued to thrive, competing in WRU Division 3C West Central and making significant strides in WRU community game leagues .

The club has maintained a strong community presence, with most of its players comingt hrough its junior development system.

In 2022, Tonna RFC reached a historic milestone by playing at the Principality Stadium for the first time in the WRU Shield final.
